I upgraded license a few days before v8 dropped

Hi,

I upgraded my site license a few days before v8 dropped - as such, I have only been sent the username and password for the Pro 7 version at secure.devart.com (i.e. user: dcoracle7pro)

I can't see an option anywhere in VS2013 to manually check for updates to the product, I haven't been automatically prompted to update since it dropped and I can't see anything other than the trial version that is downloadable for v8 from the devart site.

How do I go about getting hold of the full v8 installer?

Regards,

Rob.

Hi,

- creating a new model in the x86 environment works fine.
- The Custom Tool property is active and set correctly.
- I can right click and Run Custom Tool OK too.

Is it an option for you to remote into the machine via a join.me session to invesitgate? This has been causing us problems for months now.

Thanks.

The diagram representation is fixed but the problem with the blank custom tool setting for the model still persists for all others who try to use it (I am 64 bit, they are not). In answer to your other questions regarding this matter:

1. Please specify the Properties > Build > Platform target setting of your project:

- Building against .NET Framework 4
- Config = Any CPU

2. Make sure that versions of Visual Studio and dotConnect for Oracle on both x64 and x86 workstations are the same.

- Yes, they are.

3. Does the problem persist with all models or only with a particular one?

- Any models in this project.

Would a join.me session help you here?

Ah... I spoke to soon. Whilst it is OK for me, anyone else who opens the project gets a blank custom tool, even after they upgrade to 650.250?

They are on 32 bit machines and mine is 64bit. Does this matter?

Hi,

1. The full name is Devart OraDeveloper Tools for Visual Studio 2010 and the version number is 2.60.176

2. No, but I also upgraded dotConnect for Oracle from 630 to 650 at the same time too. Might that have caused this?

3. I uninstalled dotConnect for Oracle and OraDeveloper Tools;

4. Program Files\Devart, Program Files\Common Files\Devart, and \Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\Devart\ folders had nothing in them.

5. I cleared the bin and obj folders of my project;

6 .Devart.* and policy.*.Devart.* files did not exist in the GAC;

7. I installed dotConnect for Oracle v 6.50.250.

8. The problems, as shown in the video I linked to in a previous message. are all still present.

Oh, and I am using a 64bit environment too.

Thanks,

Rob.

OK I Have upgraded to 6.50.250 and it still shows the model in a thin window with a wdie grey panel to it's right hand side.

Regarding the Custom Tool property it was greyed out and blank. I couldn't edit it.

"Custom Tool" Blank for Entity Model

Hi,

I am having HELLS delight with the latest version of dotConnect for Oracle (650 pro). Aside from my other (still unanswered) open ticket my model has now become completely unusable:

1) SHOW-STOPPER : Whenever I make any changes to the model they aren't reflected in the generated .cs file. I have tried changing the Model Generation Template to something else and then back to EntityObject but this has no effect. On further investigation I can see that the Custom Tool property for the .edml file is blank and there is no way for me to set it back to DevartEfGenerator. I suspect this is why the files are not being regenerated but I have no idea why this association has been lost. Update Model From Database and all other diagram related tools work fine though.

If I create a brand new model it seems to work OK. This is not an option for me though as I have made hundreds of customisations to the model after adding the database tables to it.

2) NOT A SHOW STOPPER BUT SUPER INCONVENIENT : When I open the Model Diagram it opens in a super thin panel down the left side of the screen and a grey panel to it's right. There are no drag handles or anything to resize and pin the window. The only way I can overcome this is to grab the tab, pull it to the middle of the screen and the re-anchro it in the center pane. When I shut the model down and reopen it I have to repeat the process. It doesn't remember my changes.

Please shed some light on this ASAP. I am happy to open a join.me session for you to try this live.

I have quite literally come to a complete stand still.

Thanks,

Rob.

Hi,

I have upgraded to the latest version as you suggest but the issue still persists.

I have recorded a video of it here:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29763042/Devart%20BUG.avi

It does this on all 3 PC's I have tested it on.

Thanks,

Rob.

Opening .edml file causes it to be 'edited' with no changes

Hi,

After upgrading the VS2010 tools to v2.60 we now get wierd behaviour in Visual Studio for existing .edml files.

When we double click on them to open them VS shows a message straight away stating:

"This model has been modified outside of the editor. Do you want to reload it?"

Clicking yes marks the .edml file as edited (along with the sub edml.view and edps files) and a second slightly longer named edml.view is added.

When I use TFS to show the changes that have been made to the files it declares that they are identical to the repository versions.

Checking the changes into TFS is successful but the instant TFS returns control to the IDE I get the "This model has been modified outside of the editor. Do you want to reload it?" message box again and the files are once more marked as edited.

Whatsmore, when I shut the model I cannot then reopen it in VS2010 without restarting the IDE. Double clicking on it simply has no effect, nor does right click + Open.

I have tried unistalling then reinstalling the tools but the same happens. I have tried it on 2 other machines also to no avail.

Can you shed some light on this odd behaviour please and outline a workaround/fix?

Thanks,

Rob.

Can I use dotConnect4Oracle+WebMatrix to connect to Ora DB?

Hi,

I am looking into starting some of my junior developers on WebMatrix development. Can we still connect to our Oracle database using dotConnect for Oracle in this IDE?

Thanks,

Rob.

POCO Entity Template Problem with Generated ObjectContext

Hi,

I am using the Devart POCO Entity Template and when I run my project I am getting the following error with the generated ObjectContext file:

"public ClearingDataModelEntities() :
Line 37: base(@"metadata=res://*/ClearingDataModel.csdl|res://*/ClearingDataModel.ssdl|res://*/ClearingDataModel.msl;provider=Devart.Data.Oracle;provider connection string=""User Id=INTUIT;Password=intuit;Server=SR.ADMIN.SWAN.AC.UK;Home=oraclient10g_home1;Persist Security Info=True""", "ClearingDataModelEntities")
Line 38: {"

When I look at the ssdl, cdsl and msl files in the obj.Debug folder they are named slightly differently : DataModels.ClearingDataModel.csdl, DataModels.ClearingDataModel.msl and DataModels.ClearingDataModel.ssdl. The code generator for these files has pre-pended the name with the folder where the data model has been defined (i.e DataModels) but the code generator for the POCO Entities doesn't do the same.

Can you tell me if there is a quick config change I can make to resolve this? Alternatively, and as a last resort, please tell me how to edit the POCO template instead so that it includes the folder name in the metadata string.

Also, I notice that the app.config entry also doesn't include the folder name either but I guess I will have to hack that manually before copying to web.config? Can you give any idea as to if this is a known bug and when it will be fixed please?

Thanks,

Rob.

Oracle Materialized Views and Entity Developer

Is this supported yet? I am currently on version 2.80.130.0 of Entity Developer and 5.70.140.0 of dotConnect for Oracle.
