Connect Microsoft Excel to Dynamics 365 Business Central and access data

Accessing a Dynamics 365 Business Central database can be fast and seamless with an Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) solution. Devart ODBC Driver for Dynamics 365 Business Central provides full interoperability and allows you to access live Dynamics 365 Business Central data. The driver enables you to retrieve, view, and modify Dynamics 365 Business Central data directly within Microsoft Excel.

Step 1. Initiate a connection with the ODBC driver

Select the Data tab in Excel. Expand the Get Data drop-down list and click From other sources > From ODBC.

Step 2. Select your DSN

In the From ODBC dialog, choose your DSN (Data source name) and click OK.

Step 3. Connect to Dynamics 365 Business Central

Select Default or Custom, then click Connect.

Step 4. Select the table to import data from

In the Navigator window, select the table you need and click Load. You can load the data in another worksheet or choose how to view it by clicking Load To... and selecting the required options.

Step 5. View Dynamics 365 Business Central data

Your data is available in an Excel worksheet.

Download the driver

Click Download in the upper-right corner of this page. Under Download for Windows, click Download next to the EXE or MSI file or—if you're not signed in—click Get Trial, sign up or sign in to your Devart account, and then click Download next to the needed file.

Run the downloaded installer. Click Next and follow the instructions.

If you don't have an activation key yet, select Trial; if you've already purchased a license, select Activation Key and enter your key. Then, click Next. To complete the driver installation, click Finish.

Open ODBC Data Source Administrator

Click Start on the taskbar, type ODBC Data Sources, and select a matching result. The ODBC Data Source Administrator opens.

Add a data source (DSN)

Go to the User DSN or System DSN tab and click Add. Select the driver and click Finish.

On the General tab, enter a Data Source Name, Description, and other details required to connect to the data source.

Complete the configuration

Click Test Connection to make sure that all details are correct. Then, click OK to save the data source and complete the configuration.
