Connect FileMaker to Azure Synapse Analytics and access data

Accessing a Azure Synapse Analytics database can be fast and seamless with an Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) solution. Devart ODBC Driver for Azure Synapse Analytics provides full interoperability and allows you to access live Azure Synapse Analytics data. The driver enables you to retrieve, view, and modify Azure Synapse Analytics data directly within FileMaker.

Step 1. Set up an external data source

Install the driver and configure an ODBC data source. Then, create a new database file in FileMaker or open an existing one and select File > Manage > External Data Sources, then click New to add your data source.

Select a data source

Step 2. Configure the data source

Enter the name of your data source and select ODBC under Type. Click Specify and select your DSN from the list. Under Authentication, select Specify user name and password (applies to all users) and enter your credentials. Click OK.

Configure the data source

Step 3. Connect to the data source

In the Manage External Data Sources dialog, click OK .

Prepare for the installation

Note: This is a flow for Ubuntu 24. For other distributions, the steps may vary.

Make sure you have an ODBC driver manager installed—we recommend using unixODBC. You can install it with sudo apt-get install libodbc2 libodbcinst2 odbcinst unixodbc.

Prepare for the installation

Download the driver

Click Download in the upper-right corner of this page. Under Download for Linux, click Download next to the DEB or RPM package of the required bitness or—if you're not signed in—click Get Trial, sign up or sign in to your Devart account, and then click Download next to the package.

Configure a data source (DSN)

Open the odbc.ini file in a text editor. We're using nano, so the command is sudo nano /etc/odbc.ini. Locate the DEVART_<data_source> DSN (it was created automatically) and specify the required connection details.

Closing the file, save the changes.
