Challenges faced

Crealtis was developing a Delphi-based software project that relied on SQL Server databases and was originally built using ADO. Over time, this approach showed its limitations. ADO proved no longer suitable when the business planned to move toward a cloud-based SaaS model hosted in Azure. The lack of cloud compatibility created a technical barrier that blocked further product evolution.

01
ADO was no longer suitable for the planned cloud architecture
02
There was no viable way to connect the existing Delphi application to Azure
03
The inability to move to the cloud blocked the development of the SaaS model

Once these challenges became evident, the company's consultant Antoine Cazalis began searching for a reliable alternative that would support cloud deployment without a complete rewrite of the application. Brief research led him to SQL Server Data Access Components, or SDAC, which made it possible to fully replace ADO and establish stable connections to SQL Server hosted in Azure. SDAC delivered trouble-free integration with the existing Delphi codebase and enabled the application's datasets to work with SQL Server hosted in Azure. As a result, the company easily transitioned its software to Azure and moved on to the SaaS model.

"SDAC enables connections to SQL Server in Azure, thus letting me offer my software as a SaaS solution."

Results achieved

It didn't take long before the adoption of SDAC helped the company move its software to a secure cloud environment. This key objective was achieved without any extra effort. What might be even more important, besides better availability and stronger security, Crealtis gained a far more scalable software delivery model that paved the way for further business growth.

Key features Antoine is excited about

Ease of use

SDAC provided quick integration with the company's existing Delphi environment and was easy to work with. Its clear component model and predictable behavior allowed Crealtis developers to focus on business logic instead of spending time on complex configuration or troubleshooting.

Compatibility with ADO

The flexibility of SDAC made the transition from an ADO-based architecture to the cloud much simpler, avoiding any unnecessary rewrites of the company's existing software and allowing the existing workflow to remain largely unchanged.

Improved performance of connections and speed of data transfers

SDAC delivered noticeably faster data transfer compared to ADO. With this solution, the Crealtis team gained what they valued most—responsive access to data, stable operation in Azure, and a notably improved overall experience for their end users.
