Connection Types

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)

Storage Engines


MyISAM is a full-text storage engine used in web and other application environments. It stores data in files and creates a separate file for each table. To move on, MyISAM is optimized for the INSERT operations, especially at high runtime.


InnoDB supports Multi Version Concurrency Control (MVCC), transactions and foreign keys that may prevent aborted operations. Furthermore, it blocks tables at a row level. By default, tables are stored in a sharable file.


It is an open-source powerful storage engine with a built-in Fractal tree index based on the Percona server. With this engine, users can reduce the size of databases by up to 90% and improve performance of large databases, as well as modify schema in an online mode. When you experience high runtime and workload, use TokuDB.


The CONNECT storage engine enables MariaDB to access external local or remote data (MED). This is done by defining tables based on different data types, in particular files in various formats, data extracted from other DBMS or products (such as Excel or MongoDB) via ODBC or JDBC, or data retrieved from the environment (for example DIR, WMI, and MAC tables). This storage engine supports table partitioning, MariaDB virtual columns and permits defining special columns such as ROWID, FILEID, and SERVID.


The Spider storage engine is a storage engine with built-in sharding features. It supports partitioning and xa transactions, and allows tables of different MariaDB instances to be handled as if they were on the same instance.


RocksDB is an embeddable persistent key-value store for fast storage. It uses a log structured database engine, written entirely in C++, for maximum performance.



The NDBCLUSTER storage engine may be used for applications with high availability and performance. It enables clustering of in- memory databases in the environment where each component has its own memory and disk.


The MERGE storage engine combines MyISAM tables with identical columns and index formation that are listed in the same order into one logical table. It is possible to use the following operators there: SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, and INSERT. MERGE tables can easily exceed the maximum file size limit imposed by an operating system.


The MEMORY storage engine, mostly used as a temporary or read-only method to retrieve data from other tables, provides replication and query cache support. It supports hash and B-tree indexes, as well as data encryption for security reasons. Alternatively, users can schedule data backup and recovery.


The storage engine allows users to create a table with the identical structure and to retrieve data by connecting to a remote server. Local data can be stored either on a local or remote MySQL instance. In the local directory, only the .frm file is created. It is possible to deploy the FEDERATED storage engine on a local server after the table is created on the remote server. In addition, the query syntax is checked on the local server.

Search Engine


Sphinx search engine is an open-source search engine designed to perform full data text search to applications. It provides high indexing and search speed, distributed searching capabilities. In addition, it supports boolean, phrase, and word queries as well as multiple full-text fields per document.
