Devart Python Connectors add support for Python 3.15 and the latest database versions

We are pleased to announce a new release of Devart Python Connectors, bringing support for Python 3.15, Microsoft SQL Server 2025, Oracle 26ai, and MySQL 9.7.x. The update also introduces new authentication methods, connection options, and improvements to data type handling across multiple connectors.

With this release, developers can update their Python environments, connect to newer database versions, and use additional authentication options for databases and cloud services without rebuilding their existing data access workflows.

Support for Python 3.15 and new database versions

All Devart Python Connectors now support Python 3.15, allowing developers to update their Python environments while maintaining connectivity to databases and cloud applications.

The release also expands compatibility with major database platforms:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2025: Python Connector for SQL Server now supports SQL Server 2025, allowing applications, ETL processes, and scripts to work with the latest server version.
  • Oracle 26ai: Python Connector for Oracle is now compatible with Oracle 26ai, helping developers adopt the new database version while retaining their existing data access code.
  • MySQL 9.7.x: Python Connector for MySQL now supports MySQL 9.7.x, maintaining compatibility with the latest MySQL releases.

Stronger data security and authentication

The update introduces new security capabilities for MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Salesforce, and Google BigQuery.

Python Connector for SQL Server now supports Always Encrypted, allowing applications to read and write sensitive data using client-side encryption. This helps protect information such as financial records and personal data without exposing plaintext values or encryption keys to the database server.

Additional authentication improvements include:

Expanded PostgreSQL connectivity

Python Connector for PostgreSQL now supports protocol version 3.2 and virtual generated columns, along with several new connection options that provide more control over security, data handling, and connection settings.

Key improvements include:

  • Security and connectivity: The ReadOnly option restricts connections to read-only operations, while SNI adds support for Server Name Indication in SSL connections.
  • Data handling: ComplexAsBlob allows complex data types to be retrieved as binary data, and MatviewAsTable makes materialized views available as tables.
  • Time zone management: CurrentTimeZone and ExactTimeZone provide more control over how date and time values are handled.
  • Character encoding: ClientCharset allows developers to specify the client character encoding.

These additions help developers configure PostgreSQL connections for reporting, analytics, and distributed applications.

Improved data type support and compatibility

The release also introduces improvements for Oracle, MySQL, Firebird, InterBase, Microsoft Access, xBase, and Microsoft Excel.

Python Connector for Oracle: Python Connector for Oracle now supports the native JSON data type introduced in Oracle 21c, enabling applications to read and write JSON data.

Python Connector for MySQL: Added support for generated columns and handling of the ER_CLIENT_INTERACTION_TIMEOUT error packet, improving compatibility and connection error diagnostics.

Python Connectors for Firebird and InterBase: New TrustedAuthentication and FloatAsSingle connection options provide additional authentication and numeric data handling capabilities. Firebird also gains WireCompression, UseReadConsistency, and ConnectionConfigOverrides options.

Python Connector for Microsoft Access: New SharedMode and SharedTimeout options allow multiple applications to access the same database. Compatibility with Access 97 (Microsoft Jet 3) has also been improved.

Python Connector for xBase: A new read-only connection mode protects DBF files from accidental modifications. The update also improves compatibility with CodeBase and Visual FoxPro formats.

Python Connector for Microsoft Excel: Support for the CREATE RANGE statement allows cell ranges to be accessed as database objects. The new ExactFieldLength option provides additional control over string field lengths.
